New Year...New Rooms!

We started 2011 with getting settled into our new home. Unfortunately, our new home needed some much needed storage space. We decided to add cabinets in the garage, laundry room and update our master closet. Below you'll see before and after pictures of all three. Eric and I also decided that it was time to get Colton "Big Boy" furniture and move him into a real bed. We wanted to get the baby's room done and that included moving the furniture that Colton used as a baby into her room. You'll find before and after pictures of both Colton's room and Baby K's new room. Enjoy!

This is a typical day for Colton....he loves getting his toys out and making a mess with them.

I was folding clothes one morning and Colton grabbed his daddy's shirt and put it on...too cute.

Colton fell asleep on Daddy just before they were about to go run some errands.

Uncle Andy, who was visiting over New Years, also decided to get in on nap time. Eric must be pretty comfortable to fall asleep on.

New Year's Eve...we went to our friends, The Steins. All of the kids played upstairs while the grown ups played Pictionary on the Wii....I must say, one of the funniest Wii games I've played.

Ringing in 2011....Colton and mommy watching fireworks on the strip...yup, this kid was up at midnight.

New Years Day....representing IU.

Our laundry room before the much needed cabinets were installed.

Part of the cabinets....

A better shot of the before....

Nice tall cabinets....it's amazing how much stuff I can fit in here now.

Our laundry room is now complete!

Master closet with wire shelfs (yuck!)....before shot.

Same view after we got our closet organizer installed. I can fit so much more, it's amazing!

A before shot of the wire shelves.....

Our new, nice, wood shelves....we can fit so much more and it looks much better.

Before shot....

After shot....Eric's side.

After shot....love all of the drawers and shelves!

In our last garage we had tons of shelves and storage space. Luckily we have a three car garage to store everything. Being the type of person who likes to have things organized, it drove me nuts to see this everyday. So we had a whole wall of shelves installed.....

We still have stuff left to find a place for, but the majority of what you now see will be for a yard sale that we'll have in a few weeks....whatever we don't get rid of , we'll give to Goodwill...

The before shot of where the new cabinets were going...

Our new cabinets....16 feet wide by 9 feet high and I still can't get everything in there! At least everything that is in there is organized and labeled! We had three guys work nearly eight hours one Saturday to install these three rooms...we're very happy with the final product.

Colton's room before all of his new big boy furniture arrived....

Colton's crib which is now Baby K's crib...

Colton's new nightstand....we moved things all around when his new furniture arrived.

Colton's new dressor and mirror....it much bigger than his last one. The changing table will be moved into Baby K's room when she arrives. I hope to potty train him this summer...we'll see :).

And the grand finale...Colt's new big boy bed! After looking around and discussing it, we decided to get a queen size bed....I know it sounds crazy but we figured instead of buying a toddler bed, which he'll grow out of in a year or two, and then buy a bigger bed, that we would just start with a queen. Colton is projected to be tall, over 6 feet, and this way he will hopefully have this bed (maybe not the same mattress) through high school.

Colton's first night in his bed....he looks so small! One thing that we worried about was Colton rolling off the bed...hence the bed rail. Colton is a mover in his sleep. He would start at one end of his bed and in the morning he would be curled up on the other end. Hopefully with this bed he'll have enough space to move all around. It's been almost a week since he started sleeping in it and it's gone better than I expected. One of us will lay down with him for a few minutes but once we leave he stays in his bed until morning. There have been a couple of nights were he has gotten up in the middle of the night and he comes right into our room. He eventually gets put back in his bed and stays until morning.

Baby K's room before the painting started. This wall was already had this wall of stripes and we liked the lime green color so we kept that and painted the other green with a pink.

Before shot of green wall before the painting started...

I got samples of three different pinks that I liked. We decided on the far left, which was a little lighter, however it became more like the far right one after two coats of paint. I happy with the overall product...pretty pink.

The door to baby K's room.....Colton's door has a C on it.

This wall is not complete. There are still pictures to go up and a rocker where the bouncer is.

The changing table will go were the bassinet is and the bassinet will be in our room. I'm also still shopping for some nice drapes to go up.

The striped wall turned out pretty good. A few more things on the wall and it will be done.
